SUICIDE OF A GERMAN. – About 1 o’clock yesterday, a pistol-shot was heard in the neighborhood of the residence of Mrs. Van Lew, on Church Hill, on Grace, between 23d and 24th streets, and about noon the lifeless body of a German named Schultz was found lying in her garden by one of the servants. A policeman was called in, who, on turning over the body, found that he had shot himself in the mouth, the ball passing into the brain. He still grasped the pistol in his hand. An inquest was held yesterday afternoon by Justice James A. Mahone, acting coroner, and a verdict rendered by the jury in accordance with the above facts. The deceased was discharged on Wednesday by Mrs. Van Lew, for whom he had been working for two months past. He has a wife and son living in New York city. During the inquest it was stated that he often deplored the bad conduct of his wife, and said that he had rather die than live.
