From the Richmond Dispatch, 1/26/1863, p. 1, c. 4

Prison Items. – The following arrivals have been chronicled at Castle Thunder since Saturday: James Cline, Company E, 57th N. C., desertion; Andrew Rogers alias Major Manning, A Marar alias Lieutenant Robert Lynne, and George Carvener, for engaging in the substitute business as officers and agents; also, William Etsshel, a substitute; John Henry, slave of Jesse Williams, was sent in by Major Peyton Wise, having been arrested while trying to get to the Yankees; Charles, slave of Timothy Miller, was arrested as a deserter from the fortifications; Patrick Haggerty was sent from the naval hospital for drunkenness.

A man named Yarrington, a supposed spy, was taken in custody at the house of Wm. Betchtell, on 3rd, between Marshall and Clay streets, and lodged in the prison for examination by the military authorities. The detectives also carried to the prison yesterday Capt. George Hedler, of company I, 5th Louisiana, who was taken in custody for being a substitute agent. Seventeen hundred dollars, paid by parties for substitutes to this person was recovered from him.
