DECEMBER 29, 1864
To MRS PEMBER, care of Secretary Mallory, Richmond.--I received your note of 9th November; was unable to see Mr Key's immediate family, but saw an aunt who had been very devoted to him; they had heard of his death, but had received none of the particulars of his illness. I cannot tell you how grateful we are for your kindness to our dear one, or what a comfort it is to know that he has such a friend. We have not heard from him since July. Tell him to let us hear through flag of truce, or by a personal. J E H P's family are well, and have heard of him up to the 29th of November. With sincere love.
